Safe Passages at Chabot Elementary

Bobcat Bridges – New Extended Learning Programs from Safe Passages

We are very excited to share that we have solidified a partnership with Safe Passages to act as the Lead Agency for our new after-school Expanded Learning Opportunity Program (ELOP).

As shared previously, the state of California has introduced a new funding stream, the Expanded Learning Opportunity Program (ELO-P). ELO-P funding will provide free after-school programming to the highest-needs students in TK-6th grade.  Safe Passages will be able to use these funds in conjunction with program fees from families who are able to pay to offer one comprehensive before and after school program for Chabot students.  This new program, Bobcat Bridges, will provide our students with extra academic, socio-emotional, and enrichment opportunities.

Safe Passages is the ideal partner for us to collaborate with around building this new program. Safe Passages is a leader in creating Full Service Community Schools in Oakland and has served the Oakland community for over two decades. Safe Passages has designed, implemented, and evaluated Expanded Learning Programs at elementary, middle, and high schools in Oakland and other areas of Alameda County. Safe Passages is the recipient of OUSD “Highest Recommendation” as an Expanded Learning Lead Agency.

Additionally, the  Chief Executive Officer of Safe Passages, Josefina Alvarado Mena, Esq. was a Chabot parent, Safe Passages AmeriCorps Director, Randy Hamati, was a fifth-grade teacher at Chabot, and Jonathan Brumfield, Safe Passages Director of Youth Development and Culturally Appropriate Practice was also a Chabot parent. Their knowledge of our community will be invaluable as we move forward with this transition.
