Online Book Fair, February 22 – March 1

Online Book Fair, February 22 – March 1

Ms. Reese and Ms. Kathleen are excited to announce that Chabot will be having an online book fair in partnership with one of our favorite bookstores, East Bay Booksellers, during the week of February 22 – March 1.

The fair will provide Chabot families with an opportunity to buy books for yourselves, family, and friends, and will benefit Chabot at the same time (the store generously will give 20% of pre-tax sales back to the Chabot Library in the form of a store credit).

To browse and purchase online, go to the store’s website, adding CHABOT in the Coupon Code space (there ISN’T a discount), followed by your child’s teacher’s name.

We’d also like to encourage you to purchase gift cards for Chabot students whose families may be unable to afford new books. These gift cards will be sent online to Ms. Bermeo, who will oversee their distribution. You may order gift cards here, use CHABOT as the promo code, and send the cards to Ms. Bermeo at celia.bermeo@ousd.org.

If you would like assistance purchasing a book for your child, please email Ms. Bermeo.

All books will be picked up at the store by the librarians, and then passed to room parents, who will arrange pick-up by families.

Spread the word, everybody! The book fair is open to family, friends, and neighbors. Just remind them to use the “CHABOT” code so the school gets credit.

Virtual Author Visit: Judd Winick on Wednesday, 2/24 at 2 p.m.!

Exciting news: Author Judd Winick, the creator of the hit graphic novel series HiLo, will be presenting a virtual after-school assembly open to all Bobcats!

The author’s latest book, Hilo #7: Gina—The Girl Who Broke the World, will be released on February 2.

Mr. Winick is generously offering his time to schools without cost, so we are encouraging all who are interested and able to purchase a copy of the book from local bookstore Mrs. Dalloway’s.

Books purchased by February 1 will be signed by the author and available for pickup at Chabot. (Books ordered after this date may be signed, based on availability, and can be picked up at the bookstore or shipped for a fee.)

The Zoom link for this special assembly will be posted in Google Classrooms.

Inspiration, Carbon Off-Setting, and Planting Trees!

Inspiration, Carbon Off-Setting, and Planting Trees!

Oakland high school students, including Chabot alum Cali Carson, are seeking the yards of community members who want to plant a tree in their yard.

High school seniors calculated how many new trees would help address the carbon impacts of the million sheets of paper their schools use each year. Order an apple or apricot tree by February 20th, and they will plant one in your yard in March for just a $10 donation.
