How to Talk to Kids About Race in Today’s World

How to Talk to Kids About Race in Today’s World

SPECIAL COMMUNITY EVENT – All Are Welcome!

Please join us as we welcome Allison Briscoe-Smith, a clinical psychologist who specializes in young children, trauma, and race on how to talk to kids about race in today’s world.

This is a continuation of the prior work and conversations we have been having about talking about race with our children. Specifically, we will be talking about questions or concerns that might be coming up in the context of our political climate.

Please bring your questions and insights to share.

Parents, teachers, and caregivers will come away with an understanding of basic developmental awareness of children in regards to race and how to support our children’s learning and thinking about race.

Thursday, March 2nd – 6:30-8:30 pm in the Multipurpose Room

Chabot Elementary School, 6686 Chabot Road, Oakland

Childcare is provided for children 5 – 12.

Please call 654-4884 to reserve a spot.

Stand with Oakland’s Immigrant Families

Stand with Oakland’s Immigrant Families

A group of OUSD parents has launched the Immigrant Family Defense Fund (IFDF) to support families enrolled in Oakland public schools that are facing the threat of deportation.

The IFDF helps at-risk parents and children access qualified legal representation and helps those held in immigration detention get released on bond so they can stay together throughout their court proceedings.

Please consider donating at www.immigrantfamilies.org.

The IFDF is also looking for OUSD parent volunteers to serve as translators, provide legal support, and help with fundraising. If you are interested, please email volunteer@immigrantfamilies.org.

Let The Flocking Begin

Let The Flocking Begin

We are excited to “Flamingle” this year at our annual Spring Auction & Gala and to kick off this largely anticipated Chabot event, we are looking to create some flocking fun!

Send a flock of flamingos to your neighbors and friends yard, and just think of the surprise, then giggles when they wake up to a yard of pink flamingos*! The flock will roost for 24 hours before they migrate to the next yard.

The Flamingos will start landing in yards Monday, February 27th – and fly south sometime around Monday, March 13th.

Ready to flock?

How to Place Your Order:

1. Download and print this order form. Leave cash/check and the form in the PTA box (now pink) outside the office.

2. Place your order in person with the Flocking Team on Friday, February 24th or during First Friday coffee on March 3rd.

Price: $20 per flocked yard or $100 for 6 flockings (deal!!!).
