August 2007

From your PTA President:

On behalf of the Chabot Elementary School PTA, I would like to wish a warm welcome to all the new and returning Chabot families! I look forward to meeting new families, seeing old friends and sharing in the excitement of all our children as they embark on another year of learning, making friends and growing at Chabot Elementary.

Please join us for our traditional “Welcome Coffee” the first day of school, Monday August 27th, on the grass area between the Main Building and the Auditorium, just before and after school starts. This is an opportunity to meet other Chabot families, reconnect with friends and enjoy a hot or cold drink and some tasty treats.

There are a number of other meetings and events coming right up that we hope you’ll attend. They are:

  • Monday, September 3rd – Labor Day Clean-Up 9am-12pm
  • Tuesday, September 11th – PTA Meeting 7:00-9:00 pm in the Auditorium
  • Wednesday, September 19th – K-2 Back to School Night
  • Thursday, September 20th – 3-5 Back to School Night

The Chabot Elementary School PTA is a very active organization made up of engaged parents/guardians, teachers, and of course our own Principal Mayer. We work in partnership with Mr. Mayer, the teachers and staff to enhance our children’s education, and we welcome everyone to become involved, in whatever way best suits them. There are established activities and programs, but there is always room for new ideas or improvement on existing practices. And there are many, many ways to participate! You can attend a monthly PTA meeting, help in the classroom, help on the yard at recess, join a committee (so many to choose from!), or become a room parent. You can volunteer in the library or the garden, chair or just help with a fund-raiser, promote PTA membership, help with the newsletter or website...

The list goes on, with many different avenues for participation. Whether you are new to the school this year, or a returning parent who volunteers a lot but doesn’t normally attend PTA meetings, I encourage everyone to attend the first PTA meeting on September 11. Learn more about our PTA – what we do, how we do it, and how you can participate to make a difference in your child’s education at Chabot.

This year the PTA is once again sponsoring some exciting enrichment programs that benefit our children during the school day: Music, Art, Technology (3rd-5th), Library, Garden and Spanish (K-3rd). In addition, there are fabulous after-school programs. If you have Internet access we strongly encourage you to sign up for electronic delivery of the After School Programs packet by sending an email to kweigel@bofasecurities.com This saves paper, time AND money! If you are unable to receive the packet via e-mail, one will be mailed to you in the next few weeks.

Our communications volunteers work hard to keep us informed through our monthly PTA newsletter, this website and our weekly emailed newsletter. To subscribe our email newsletter, send an email to chabotelementary-request@majordomo.alentus.com and put the word 'subscribe' in the message body. The Chabot Elementary School Handbook and the Directory are published early in the school year, with detailed information and contacts.

Membership in the Chabot PTA is an important way for you to have a voice in the issues and decisions affecting your child’s education. Our membership drive will kick off soon, and our goal is 100% membership from our families! (It’s only 5$!) The more members we have, the more clout the state PTA has, and the more strength we have when advocating on behalf of our kids.

I look forward to meeting you at the Welcome Coffee on Monday, August 27th. Best wishes for the upcoming year! If you ever have any questions or comments please feel free to contact me. I am always happy to talk to you!
