Chabot has a wonderful and varied music program. Music lets children use their bodies and senses, and helps children learn. When children perform a piece together, they make wonderful music while they learn to concentrate and to work together. Chabot’s music performances are joyful community events; you can almost see the children develop poise and confidence before your eyes and ears.
Our music program is based on the Orff Schulwerk method. Orff is a way of introducing and teaching children about music on a level that they can easily comprehend. Musical concepts are learned through singing, chanting, dance, movement, drama, and the playing of percussion instruments. Improvisation, composition, and a child's natural sense of play are encouraged. The program is presented by highly qualified musicians and educators, who work with classroom teachers to make music a fun and integral part of the learning experience.
The music program for grades K-3 is paid for entirely from funds raised by the PTA. Music in grades 4 & 5 is funded by the Oakland Unified School District. We strive to make this difference invisible to the students.

Chabot students can also participate in after-school music programs, including chorus and jazz workshop.
