Chabot provides a varied, exciting curriculum including individual and group learning experiences in a supportive environment.
Some of our basic academic curriculum is set by state curriculum standards in reading, math, science and social studies. Like other Oakland public schools, Chabot uses the Open Court reading education program, that comprehensively covers phonemic awareness, phonetics, and word recognition through literature and coordinated exercises. Reading scores have improved dramatically since the Oakland Schools began using Open Court.
Chabot uses the excellent FOSS (Full Option Science System) science program, developed by the Lawrence Hall of Science, which provides hands-on, collaborative learning experiences in the natural sciences. Chabot also participates in Lawrence Hall of Science’s MARE (Marine Activities, Resources and Education) program, an inquiry-based science program that transforms the classrooms into laboratories for the exploration of the ocean.
Within this framework, our multi-talented teachers create their own curricula, often team-teaching and creating innovative learning plans.
