Chabot has a Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program for third, fourth and fifth graders. Test scores, classroom performance, and other factors are considered in selecting children for the GATE program.

The content of the GATE program varies from year to year. In recent years, it has included offsite after-school art programs, on-site drama and improvisation programs, and field trips. During the 2002-2003 school year, the GATE program takes place during the school day and presents GATE students with material intended to challenge them beyond the regular curriculum.
