In the Spring of 2002, Chabot parents, staff and students broke ground for what was to become our incredible school garden. Regular school classes in our Garden Program began in October 2002, and the garden has become an important part of Chabot's enrichment program.
Our Garden teachers are Nathalie Torrens, and assistant teacher Colette Rowe. Our Garden curriculum incorporates science education, organic gardening, environmental awareness and healthy nutrition. The garden offers every Chabot student the opportunity to discover new ways of thinking, learning and interacting in a hands-on, outdoor laboratory.
Each Chabot class comes to the garden at regular weekly times (kindergarten classes come bi-weekly). Students also visit on their own time during lunch and recess. Our students and parents have continued to develop the garden, and each year we add new planted areas and features. The garden curriculum includes sessions on organic planting, growing healthy soil, natural methods of restoring poor soils, good nutrition, natural building, ecosystems and observing the web of life. Come visit the Chabot School garden and grow with us -
