| Computer Curriculum
Our goal for children in the Computer Enrichment
Program is that by the time they leave Chabot they will have mastered
basic skills using computers and the internet as learning and research
tools. Specific goals include typing 20 words per minute, creating
and saving documents using word processing, creating simple spreadsheets
and presentation graphics, and understanding and performing the
basics of using a search engine for internet research.
Our computer specialist, Debbie Hughes, works
closely to coordinate lesson plans with each teacher in the third,
fourth and fifth grades. Additionally, depending on each teacher’s
time and interest, we provide support for other computer-based activities
such as designing web pages and digital photography.
Third Grade students work mostly on developing
keyboarding skills using Type to Learn software. They will also
learn Kid Pix (a drawing and graphics program) to illustrate a poem.
Fourth Grade students continue work on keyboarding,
word processing, and use internet links as well as research using
the “Google” search engine.
Fifth Grade students work on keyboarding,
word processing, researching on the internet, spreadsheets, using
the computer to present information, and burning a CD.
