Our Art Program and the Art teaching position are jointly funded by the Chabot Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and the Oakland Unified School District. Our Art teacher is under the supervision of the school Principal. Theyalso receive guidance and support from the PTA Art Committee and Enrichment Advisory Committee. The Art teacher is responsible for planning and implementing the Art Program for all Chabot students, grades K-5. Students attend one Art class per week for the full school year, and the art class time is a prep period for the student's primary teacher.
The central mission of our Art program is to nurture and support the formation of original ideas through creative exploration and discovery. We recognize that positive experiences with the creative process are key to the development of children's ability to learn, innovate, and grow. As such, our emphasis is on the creative process -creative thinking, imagination, exploration, discovery and expression - and less upon the finished product. We recognize that creative thought is found in all aspects of a growing child's life, and should be a source of their individual development. By fostering creative thinking, discovery and expression, we help children experience the joy and excitement in learning, and to be inquisitive and engaged in all areas of their curriculum.
