Another Snake Bench Work Party on Sunday, Nov. 11

The garden committee is undertaking the creation of a large cob snake bench that will be a permanent “permaculture” feature in the campus garden. The 20-foot-long snake will be made using recycled materials and “cob,” a mixture of clay soil, sand and straw. After initial construction the snake will be plastered and decorated in mosaic tile by parents and kids. See recent photos of the project below.

There will be another chance to get your hands (and feet!) dirty on Sunday, Nov. 11, from 9:30 a.m. to  1:30 p.m. in the school garden as we continue to add layers of cob to our snake bench. Wear shoes or boots that can get muddy – or go barefoot. Please bring your water bottle, sunscreen, and possibly a snack to contribute. All types of help welcome – kids will love it, but we still need heavy lifters too.

Additionally, we are accepting tile donations at that time – hopefully 1″ or smaller. These will be used in the final part of the snake bench to decorate the exterior. Other small glass beads, marbles, etc. are also appreciated. Contact: laurajburnett@yahoo.com.
